Week 1

It's been a week. A week and a day to be precise. A week and a day since I first arrived here in the land of movie stars and all things kale, and I can safely say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I Gregory Ronnell Hawkins Jr.....still have NO idea what the hell I'm doing.

Not that I ever did, mind you.

A little background:

  • My name is Greg. I work in television production and have the dream to one day write for television and film.
  • I'm originally from St. Louis, Missouri. And as I'm sure what comes as shocking to NO ONE, there is not much in the way of television and film there. And so...
  • I'm out here in Los Angeles, staying with a cousin for 2 weeks as a way of starting my transition to moving out here permanently.
Ok, so I should mention before I move on that YES, I did work in St. Louis for a couple years. Although if you were to add it all up it only adds to a few months. Unfortunately there just isn't much in the realm of television going on in St. Louis. Hopefully that will change some day soon. But until then, I'm off to the land of overpriced everything!

So after being here a week, I can say that I have actually worked (for one day) and that I have something of a job prospect I'm waiting to hear about. And some people have congratulated me on those "accomplishments" but I don't see why. I'm pretty sure I've just lucked into everything so far, and am yet to actually acquire any work thanks to my own skills and experience. But then again I am quite the cynic so maybe I should just cheer the fuck up.

So what's next? How the hell should I know. I'm making this up as I go. My guess is that I keep applying to jobs, searching high and low for ways to apply to SCRIPTED television and film productions, and start the hunt for an affordable (read: small) apartment. Ugh, growing up womps.

P.S. If you haven't done so already, the next time you're out here in the city of angels, do yourself a favor and take the Warner Brothers Studio Tour. Best decision I've made in quite some time. It served as  a great reminder of why I first feel in love with this industry in the first place.
